Keep 75% Promise on Local Labour

Demolition of the Broadway area to make way for a new shopping centre

Councillor David Ward is asking the Council to keep its promise to use local labour on projects it is involved in.

Cllr Ward said,

" For the last two years we have fought to keep this commitment in the Council's Corporate Plan because it is vital that local people get the employment benefit of local construction schemes where the Council is involved. Wages paid locally will be spend locally and this is good for the economy of Bradford District.

We are committed to 75% local labour on projects like the Broadway development and the new schools which are due to start soon but I want to make sure that the Council is going to monitor what happens and report back on progress.

If they don't do this, by the time we find out what is happening it could be too late. "

The full text of the motion to be discussed at the Council Meeting on October 31st is below.

Local Employment

This Council re-affirms is commitment to Aim 6 of the Corporate Plan ' Connecting investment to regenerations' and in particular the statement ' We will monitor new major projects where the council has a direct involvement and ensure 75% local labour in contracts and the supply chain.'

The Council further requests the Strategic Director ( Regeneration) to bring an early report to the Regeneration and Environment Improvement Committee setting out progress against this target including input into the Building Schools for the Future project.
