Bus Nightmare on Woodhall Avenue

October 24, 2006 2:54 PM

Oraneg Line updateBradford North Area Committee have asked Metro and First Bradford to look again at the Orange Line bus route that serves Morrison's Headquarters on Gain Lane.

Councillor Riaz Ahmed ( Lib Dem Bradford Moor ) said,

" The bus service was out in as part of the development of Morrison's headquarters in gain Lane but it has been a nightmare for the people living on Woodhall Avenue.

Their lives have been made a misery by 70 - 80 buses a day passing only feet from their windows. Passengers can peer into peoples' bedroom windows because they are so close.

Children are at risk from the buses which sometime travel the wrong way down the road.

I have asked Metro and First Bus to talk to residents and re-route the bus away from their homes down to the Thornbury Barracks roundabout. It will only add about five minutes to the journey for Morrison's employees but it will make a huge difference to the lives of local people."

Note

The Bradford North Area Committee on October 19th agreed to the proposal below put by Cllr Ahmed

1. That Metro be informed that this committee supports the residents of Woodhall Avenue in their objection to the routing of the Orange Bus extension without full consultation and requests Metro to give serious consideration to alternative routes for example diverting the return leg of the journey to the Thornbury Barracks roundabout.

2. That Metro be encouraged to consult on a wider basis than the strict legal requirement in any future proposals for bus routes

3. That pending the re-routing of the Orange Bus, or for one year which ever is the earlier, the traffic on Woodhall Avenue be monitored and a report bough back to this committee.

4. That the petitioners be informed accordingly.
