Councillor David Ward has criticised the treatment meted out to Carlton Bolling College by the Conservative Portfolio Holder as ' sheer madness ' In a letter to the Bradford Telegraph and Argus he said,
" I believe the support given by Councillor Michael Kelly to the decision made by the School Forum to fine Carlton Bolling College nearly £170,000 for failing, in his own words, to follow "correct procedures" is hugely disappointing.
The college's "crime" was to submit a year-end form late. Notification of the March 31 deadline was buried in a weekly newsletter distributed to all schools, but was not included on the list of required year-end procedures sent to all school business managers by Education Bradford.
The college has never had to send this particular form in before and has never missed a deadline for any other year-end form in the past.
Carlton Bolling College has gone from the torrid days of a fire, split-site provision and Special Measures to being the first secondary school in Bradford to be deemed "outstanding" - is this the way to treat a school that has done so much for the BD3 community? Sheer madness! "
