Council should do more to communicate with disabled people
Bradford council Is to discuss how it can improve the way the provide information for people with disabilities at the executive on 23 June.
Cllr Carol Beardmore (Lib Dem spokesperson for social care ) said,
"This is a welcome though long awaited step in the right direction as the council has not been as good as it should be.
Bradford has an increasing number of people with disabilities, all of whom have a right to have a say on what is going on the district.
It is not simply about using large print and pictures. The language we use and the layout of reports, publicity and websites takes longer to produce and more time is needed by people with a learning disability to read and understand information.
We must be able to discuss with them and enable them to respond and participate fully.
We will all need to think differently about the way we work and it is right that we should"
