Councillor Ann Wallace ( Lib Dem, Eccleshill ) has taken up the plight of a resident who tried to report an incident.
Cllr Wallace said,
'As the incident was not an emergency she did the right thing and called her nearest police station, Javelin House. Javelin House is a huge police station but seems to have no police there, only a service from 8am to 4pm and closes for 2 hours at lunch time
They answered but would not deal with the problem. They told her she had to ring Wakefield and gave her a number. She rang it and they took her information. They said they would pass it on to Keighley which is apparently now our main police station.
A few minutes later she got a call from Keighley Police Station asking for details of the incident. When she had finished explaining, she was told they would pass the information on to Javelin House for them to deal with!
What a farce. I know that the police are trying to promote Neighbourhood Policing and trying to reconnect with the communities they serve but an incident like this undermines their efforts.
I am contacting the Chief Constable to ask how the police can improve their procedures to prevent this sort of thing happening."
