David Ward: Council listens to resident's plea for the removal of bollards at St. Mary's Fold.

November 2, 2009 11:22 AM

Residents at St. Mary's Fold in Laisterdyke are celebrating the decision by Councillors of the Bradford North Area Committee to remove the bollards the Council had used to close the road at St. Mary's Fold.

Liberal Democrat Area Committee Chair, David Ward said, "The case was well made by local residents. The council had not consulted with residents and had not followed the correct procedure to close the road. Residents can now continue to use the services of the library bus and will not longer be in danger from vehicles who could not get through using the car park at the St. Mary's Fold sheltered housing complex as a turning area. The Council must do much more to consult with local residents. This is clearly a road with long established rights of way as part of the highway network. Those sort of rights cannot just be ignored neither can the rights of people living in a shelter housing complex to live in quite enjoyment of their homes."

Local Lib Dem campaigner, Tracey Leeming, who backed local residents and helped them with a petition said, "This is a victory for common sense. Life is difficult enough when you get a bit older without having to cope with unwanted traffic and not being able to get to the library bus."
