Cllr Watmough - critical of council fogetting brain injury charity

Councillor John Watmough has criticised the Council for failing to hold a promised review on the provision of services for people with head injuries.

He said,

" Nearly two years ago, the brain injury charity Headway approached the Council about setting up a rehabilitation unit for people with head injuries. There was a meeting and a steering group was set up. The senior council officer responsible left the council and no one picked up the work.

I then received a petition from Headway which they wanted to present to the council at its meeting on 23rd March. My investigations revealed that that Council had just forgotten about Headway and no progress had been made.

I reported my findings to the new Strategic Director of Adult Services who was very concerned about the way Headway had been treated. She has undertaken to investigate and the petition will be taken very seriously. Clearly there has been a complete breakdown in communications between the council and the charity and I have asked for this to be investigated."
