Hands off Eccleshill - a petition opposing the plan to put Eccleshill in Leeds

In September the Boundary Commission published its' plan for new Parliamentay Constituencies across England. Under their scheme Eccleshill will be part of a 'Leeds West' seat. This will mean that our communities would become a forgotten part of Leeds. We have until the 5th December to make sure that this doesn't happen.

Over the next few months the Boundary Commission will be consulting with the public on their plans to put Eccleshill in Leeds. You can comment on their plans online here

Or you can go in person to the public consultation in Leeds on October 13th & 14th. If you wish to speak, you must book your spot for this in advance by calling 020 7276 1102

The public consultation will be held at

Ramada Leeds North, Millgreen View, Ring Road, Leeds, LS14 5QF

Cllr Ann Wallace says "Eccleshill needs an MP from Bradford to stand up and speak out for our area. Please make sure that your voice is heard before we become a forgotten corner of Leeds.

Below are a selection of arguements against putting Eccleshill into a Leeds constituency

Reasons Eccleshill should stay in Bradford

How to change the Propsals

You have until 5th December to make your voice heard, please go to the Boundary commission and tell them what you think. Below are the criteria they have to use to make their changes and some advice to help make you arguement against it.

The rules for the changes

The constituency must have between 72,810 and 80,473 voters.
The Boundary Commission may also take in to account the following:

  • Geographical considerations.
  • Local Government boundaries.
  • Existing constituencies.
  • Local ties that would be broken.

Getting your point across

When speaking up for Eccleshill it is important that we make points that the Boundary Commission will take into consideration.
factors that might influence them include:

  • The splitting of communities.
  • Dividing communities from local aminities
  • The way people travel to work.
  • Where the schools and hospitals we use are.
  • Cultural and historical links.
  • Ability of the MP to build links and get work done.

If you want to make your voice heard but need a little help, then you can email handsoffeccleshill@gmail.com or go to www.communitiesfirst.org.uk for more information.

Thank you
