Open consultation to the public - Yorkshire Water told

12.00.00am UTC (GMT +0000) Thu 2nd Sep 2004

Councillor David Ward ( Lib Dem Idle and Thackley ) has written to the Chief Executive of Yorkshire Water demanding that they hold a properly advertised public meeting about their proposals to discharge more treated sewage effluent into the River Aire

He said,

" I am amazed that the company held a meeting 'by invitation' only and did not advertise it widely to members of he public. I have had a number of calls from people who read about it in the Telegraph and Argus but were unable to find the public notice of Yorkshire Water's intentions because it was in another local paper.

I have written to the Chief Executive of Yorkshire Water asking for a public meeting, properly advertised so that people can find out what is happening.

I have also suggested that Yorkshire Water send a representative along to the next Idle and Thackley Neighbourhood Forum meeting which is being held before the end of the consultation period."
