Bus cuts protest

12.00.00am UTC (GMT +0000) Thu 14th Oct 2004

The Chair of the Bradford North Area Committee has written to First Bradford to protest at their plans to cut the 647,651 and 97 bus services which linked Bradford, Greengate, Apperley Bridge, Guisley and the airport. He said,

"Two unrelated decisions by two different bus companies (First Leeds and First Bradford) have combined to take away any bus services from Little London and the north end of Apperley Bridge.

"I am concerned for two reasons. First of all, I believe that the new housing developments in Apperley Bridge were given planning permission on the understanding that buses would be available for commuters as long as the proposed new station at Apperley Bridge was delayed.

"Secondly, the schools twinning priejct which aims to encourage understanding between schools and pupils in different areas had very successfully linked Feversham Girls College in Undercliffe and Trinity and All Saints College in Horsforth. The public transport link between the two has been severed by this decision.

I have written to First Bus and asked them to reconsider these decisions."
