Cut crime on the buses12.00.00am UTC (GMT +0000) Mon 8th Nov 2004 There is a strong link between bus related crime and other crimes, a briefing paper by the Dept for Transport claims. Cllr Ann Ozolins (Lib Dem - Idle and Thackley) Bradford Spokesperson for the West Yorkshire Passenger Transport Authority said, 'The WYPTA has a scheme with Community Police Officers and I hope that is going to help. A police officer seconded to work within a passenger transport executive or bus company can also help. This study reveals that there was a reduction in all recorded crime in a pilot scheme in Merseyside and arrests were three to five times higher than normal. Bus drivers do suffer attacks in Bradford and perhaps as well as reducing these incidents we could reduce the crime in the surrounding area by such a collaboration in our city. Routes that go through high crime areas are at greater risk of crime. Schemes to tackle high crime bus corridors should be used along with schemes to tackle high crime areas and that bus operators should work in partnership with the police ."
