Let's do 'Children in Need' in Centenary Square

12.48.01pm UTC (GMT +0000) Mon 29th Nov 2004

Councillor David Ward is writing to the Chief Executive of the Council suggesting that the Council should put on a fund-raising event for Children in Need next year.

He said,

" This year the switch-on of the Christmas lights took place one day before the BBC Children in Need Appeal. I though it was a shame that the staging could not be left in place for the following day and a fund-raising event organised.

There is clearly a lot of support for the event and it would give the district a focus for Children in Need and hopefully raise a lot of money . It would also bring more people into the City Centre.

In 2005, Children in Need takes place on Friday November 18th so lets have the lights switch on the Thursday and leave the staging up for it."
