Council fails to sign up to agreement with voluntary organisations3.21.49pm UTC (GMT +0000) Wed 1st Dec 2004
Councillor David Ward has put down a motion for debate at Council on December 7th accusing the Conservative Executive of driving a coach and horses through the ' General Compact '. The Compact was developed by the Building Communities Partnership supported by Bradford Vision. He will say , " The Council failed to signed up to the General Compact which was supposed be an agreement between voluntary and community groups and various authorities like the Council and the Primary Care Trusts. The Compact included agreement on key issues like good communications and dialogue, accessibility of resources, and ' early and meaningful consultation' When it came to cutting the Community Development budget all this went out of the window in the rush to get the cuts through. One way of making sure that this does no again would be for the Council to sign up to the General Compact and join the other public bodies and voluntary and community organisations. It might go some way to restoring an element of trust which had undoubtedly been lost as a result of the cuts."
