Local Councillors Jeanette Sunderland and David Ward (Lib Dem Idle Ward) have written to the Head of the Libraries Service in Bradford to complain about the state of the outside appearance of Idle library.

In their letter to Ian Watson the Councillors say," The library window has been broken since August and is all boarded up. The service promised to repaint the window frames almost a year ago. This work has not been carried out and the library is looking very, very shabby. Repairs must be done immediately to ensure that the building is up to standard."

Councillor Sunderland said "The Idle Village Partnership is holding a Community Clean-up on Monday and Tuesday 7 and 8th of November. The purpose is to clean-up and clearout the grot from the village and take care of those jobs that need doing by residents, businesses and housing associations alike to clean up and make the place smarter. It would be a great help if the Library Service could play its part and clean-up its mess too."

Councillor Ward says "There is a significant number of people who are working hard to improve the village. Without the Council playing its part by looking after and maintaining its own properties then it makes our job harder to encourage and work with volunteers to do the same. It seems as if the Council can find money for big arty stuff like the fancy display that wrapped the City Centre library building in sheeting for a slide show but fails to address the simple issues like repairing and maintaining the libraries that people in places like Idle and Thackley use."

Both local Councillors have urged the Head of the Library Services to ensure that his service plays it part in the community clean-up and help to restore pride in Idle."
