Bradford may need another special school

4.43.30pm UTC (GMT +0000) Tue 29th Nov 2005

Councillor Carol Beardmore is looking for Council support to improve the provision for children with moderate learning difficulties ( MLD ). She is concerned that the current plans to re-organise special schools could leave some pupils out in the cold and she is moving a motion at Council on December to help them.

She said,

" Education should be Bradford's number one priority but it is becoming increasingly clear that the Council's plans may not take account of the needs of some children who have moderate learning difficulties. My fear is that some children will not get the help they need in the right setting.

I want the Council to seriously consider whether we actually need another secondary special school in addition to those already planned."
