Solar powered street light

The this light uses a combination of solar photovoltaic panels and a vertical wind turbine to power a street lighting column.

Local ward Councillor Jeanette Sunderland ( Idle Lib Dem ) has asked Council officers to provide lighting schemes for play equipment in local parks.

Councillor Sunderland said,

" In Idle Ward, we have supported young people with funding for a skate park in Idle recreation Ground but they can't use it after school in the winter months without lighting.

It's such a shame as they have worked to hard on this project and they should be congratulated. The Council must look at lighting these schemes so that young people can get the maximum benefit.

I have suggested that if the cost of providing mains electricity is too high, officers should explore using solar powered lighting.

Other residents have told me that they are much more likely to use the parks if they are lit."
