Councillors David Ward and Jeanette Sunderland ( Lib Dem Idle ), have expressed outrage at the escalating cost to residents of making up unadopted roads outside their homes.

Councillor Ward said,

" This saga has been dragging on since 2002 when 72% of the residents in Springfield Terrace were happy to pay their share of the cost. Because of staff shortages at the Council, the scheme went nowhere and now the cost has gone through the roof.

One person's costs have gone up from £450 to over £2,000. It is a disgrace. The Council made this offer to people and then didn't do the work."

Councillor Sunderland said,

" We have asked the Executive to make up the difference between what the Council originally said it would cost and what is will cost now. This is the best chance that residents have to getting the dreadful problem solved."
