Idle Village Partnership launches Christmas Lights Competition12.45.10pm UTC (GMT +0000) Wed 1st Nov 2006
The Idle Village Partnership has launched a competition for children and residents in Idle to design a Christmas lights feature for Idle Village. The competition has three strands, one for Thorpe Primary School children, one for young people at Immanuel College and one for people who live in the village. "This is a great way for people to add to the scheme which was designed by the Urban Village partnership last year. Many residents told me how great the lights looked and how they want the scheme to continue. This years lights will be even better than last" says Councillor Sunderland. People are being invited to work up designs and send them into the Councils Area Co-Ordinators office where they will be judged by Reverend David Johnson of Holy Trinity Church and Marjorie Darton of the Idle Village partnership. The prize winners will be invited to visit the Festival Lights company (1) to see their designs being made along with their class mates. They will also receive two free tickets to the pantomime. "We will be asking the winners to switch on the lights on Saturday 2nd December at 4.30 pm in the centre of the village" says Councillor Sunderland."Everyone is invited to turn up to take part in community carol singing which will be led by Idle Community Radio and pupils from Immanuel School. We're really looking forward to the event. Everyone is invited to come along and join in the fun. Afterwards everyone is invited to a free supper at the Baptist Church and to hear about the work the Idle Village Partnership has been doing with local community groups." says Councillor Sunderland who is the Chair of the Partnership.
