Elderly residents still waiting for lift2.53.41pm UTC (GMT +0000) Mon 18th Dec 2006
Cllr John Cole ( Lib Dem Baildon ) Is seeking assurances that the long awaited new lift at Ivy Bank Court will be replaced as soon as possible and that arrangements will be made for residents in the meantime if the lift breaks down again. He said, " This lift has broken down three times this year stranding elderly residents in Ivy Bank Court and now I am told that it has past its use-by date and will have to be replaced. The money - £44,000 - is available but the work will not be done until at least March and may be later. When the work does start, residents will be without a lift for several weeks. While I am pleased that residents will eventually get a new lift, the delay has been too long. Moves to replace the lift should have been started much sooner. I am concerned about breakdowns between now and March and also about how residents will cope while the repair takes place. I have asked for more details from Shipley Community Housing Trust and am working with the Resident Warden to make sure that in the meantime, residents get the help they need."
