Residents in Idle have presented a petition to local ward councillor Jeanette Sunderland ( Lib Dem, Idle and Thackley ) about the failure of the Council to protect the conservation area in the village.

Councillor Sunderland said,

" We believe that Idle is an important part of our local and national heritage which must be protected. The village has been given conservation area status which should offer it some protection.

However, the Council's failure to clamp down on poorly conserved shops, illegal signs and construction, means that it makes little difference. Some residents and businesses are working very hard to keep their properties in a good state of repair but others just don't seem to care.

" I am bringing together local people to join forces and put pressure on the council to do its job and tackle these nuisance properties.

The Council is looking at other possible conservation areas in order to meet a government target. This is absolutely ridiculous when it cannot even manage the existing ones. I have asked for a detailed report to be taken to the next meeting of the Bradford North Area Committee detailing the action the Council is going to take."
