Councillor David Ward is calling on the Council to issue a Building Preservation Notice for the Odeon.

He said,

" A petition of 1000 names has been sent to the Council asking for the Odeon to be protected while it is once again considered for listing. A Building Preservation Order means that the Odeon would be treated as if it were listed for 6 months pending the outcome of the sixth application for it to be officially listed.

Council Offices are recommending that a Preservation Order is not issued because they don't believe that the Secretary of State will list it. My concern is that without any protection at all, the building can be legally damaged as happened when the canopies were removed.

Given Yorkshire Forward's vandalism of the building in the past, I strongly support the petitioners is their attempts to protect the it while the Secretary of State makes up his mind about the permanent listing."
