Cllr Howard Middleton to be the Lib Dem nomination for the next Lord Mayor of Bradford

Councillor Howard Middleton will be nominated as next year's Lord Mayor of Bradford

Under the agreement in place for the rotation of Lord Mayor between the political groups on Bradford Council, for the 2008/2009 municipal year the Liberal Democrat group will be putting forward Councillor Howard Middleton as candidate for Lord Mayor.

Councillor Howard Middleton has been a councillor for the Bolton Ward, and then the Bolton and Undercliffe ward since 1996. He is currently the Group Whip and was previously the Chair of the Bradford North Area Committee. He is married to Mrs Colleen Middleton, who also served as a Lib Dem councillor on Bradford Council between 1999 and 2003.

The Liberal Democrat group have invited the Green party to elect a Green councillor to be proposed for the post of Deputy Lord Mayor of Bradford and the Lib Dem Group will support their choice.

The formal election of the Lord Mayor and Deputy Lord Mayor of Bradford MDC will take place at the Council's Annual Meeting on Tuesday 20 May 2008.
